Downtown Denver Motor Tour

When was the last time you were a tourist in your own city? For me that was yesterday. Thanks to the Downtown Denver Partnership and Ken Schroeppel, Urban Planner/Tour Guide. We boarded a bus for a 3-hour tour of Denver’s infill development projects. Yes, we took a whole 3 hours and never left the city!
OK, so touring on a slow moving bus, covering all too familiar ground doesn’t sound so thrilling? Ah, but it was. Learning about Denver and all of the Denver real estate projects in and around downtown is amazing.
Denver is a construction magnet right now. Everywhere one looks there is a construction crane or two in view! Actually I think Denver has the corner on the construction crane market, there can’t be any left in the rest of the country.
Just last week ground was broken for construction of the new 45 story Four Seasons Hotel & Residences. This landmark will offer 102 residences with 235 hotel rooms at completion in a couple years. Owners residing at the Four Seasons will have the same access and services as guests. Not your ordinary amenities include a wide variety of services; housekeeping, catering, nightly turn-down, concierge, round-the-clock security, plant care and private chef!
“The arrival of Four Seasons Hotel and Private Residences is yet another sign of Denver’s growing stature as a world-class city,” said Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper. “This new development will offer residents and visitors alike the opportunity to experience downtown’s vibrant cultural institutions, nightlife, shopping and dining.”
Just a couple blocks away are more cranes working on the beautiful new Spire high-rise adjacent to the Colorado Convention Center. This 41-story residential complex will offer 505 units when complete.
Our bus tour group took a little side trip to the top of the Millenium Bridge to learn about what is happening in the Central Platte Valley. This open land on the west side of Union Station is quietly exploding into a variety of residences and eventually a full size King Scoopers Grocery Store.
On the west side of I-25 we cruised around Highland and into Jefferson Park. As many
times as I’ve been on the west side of Bronco Stadium, I am still thrilled at the view of the Denver skyline from that vista. It’s no wonder Jefferson Park is in the process of coming into it’s own time. The view lots there are guaranteed to thrill.
At the end of my well invested 3-hour tour, I feel more convinced that Denver is becoming a world class city. Yes, the rest of the country may be experiencing a real estate decline, but lucky for us Denver is not participating!

Good post. Very informative, especially mentioning Jefferson Park. Keeping up with Denver becoming a world class city is very exciting.
With an estimated 25,000 people moving into downtown and the surrounding area in the next 18-24 months will definitely grow Denvers Downtown to the capacity of a “world class” city! Great to hear the bus tour was a great time investment.
It is very encouraging to note that Downtown Denver continues to build and grow. I am a little more interested in more affordable housing for the first time homebuyer who wants to live downtown. They probably can’t afford the Four Seasons.
I had no idea that so much construction was going on in Denver. I thought Vail had the market cornered on cranes. I guess it comes down to the fact that people with money still have money, and forclosures and the sub prime mortgage market don’t affect them much. Although jumbo loans were affected for a while, they seem to be back on track now. Thanks for the tour Kristal!
